Think of Iceland and you think of frozen food. And rightly so – it's been the driving force behind our brand for 45 years. But – now you'll need to put aside your preconceptions - did you know that we are also the most innovative food retailer in the UK, and the winner of multiple awards for our products, service and the way we treat our people? Now we're ready to set your career on a fast track to the top with one of our Graduate programmes.
First thing's first – we don't want you to be in the shadows, so why would you shadow anyone? No. We'll give you early responsibility to manage a small category. You'll be involved in everything from range selection and deal negotiation to sales forecasting and ideas presentation to senior leaders. At the programme's end, you'll know exactly how we operate and have the essential buying principles to turn commercial data into outstanding results through rigorous data analysis.
If you thought it would be years before you could influence the shape of a business, think again. Get ready to play a huge part in our strategic decision making process. You'll be taken into the inner sanctum of our business, working closely with one of our Exec Board, and you'll learn what leadership looks like from every aspect – including in our stores. This is the chance to learn how to make the most insightful, most impactful decisions. You will be set specific projects to work on, liaising closely with different departments throughout the business.
Our stores are the heart of our business – this is where our reputation is forged and maintained. So it's all about making our customers our number one priority. You'll immerse yourself in this exciting, fast-moving store culture and get to the beating heart of how we do business. It's the perfect platform from which to introduce new ideas as you'll see just what our customers love about what we do – as well as how we might be able to deliver even better service.
There are few businesses as ambitious as we are. And few individuals as ambitious as you are. So it’s the perfect pairing. In return for being such a great match for our culture, we’ll give you all the training and support you need to bring out the best in you. Preparing you to make the most of your talent.
Everyone who works here has their own reasons for loving the Iceland atmosphere (the only thing that’s not powered by frozen – this is one of the warmest working environments around). The most common one you’ll hear, though, is that, ‘It’s what you make of it – if you want it, the chance is there to go out and get it.’
The envy factor must be pretty high for graduates working for other retailers. There’s a real, 'I wish I worked there,' factor about the place. Because there’s a unique combination of a lively culture with a massive amount of responsibility.
Of course, we're bound to say that, aren't we? But don't just take our word for it. See what some of our brilliant Graduates have already said about the Iceland experience:
"The culture within the business coupled with the amount of responsibility given to you as a Graduate is fantastic. From day one, I've been shown the Iceland way, which is very much get-stuck-in-and-have-a-go."
Aaron Cooper, Graduate Buyer
"The thing I'm enjoying the most so far is the interaction and communication with people – it ensures no two days are the same. On a daily basis, I'll also speak to one of the Managing Directors… I find this kind of exposure, this early on, invaluable in my development."
Tom Sabell, Graduate Buyer
"I'm loving Iceland. And I'm enjoying running a project that's completely my own. I have been given a real budget. However, with this, there are expectations to see results."
James Hickmott, General Management Graduate
"Overall, I've been amazed at the responsibility I've been given since starting with Iceland and I can do things now that I never would have thought possible after my first week here."
Jessica Homer, Industrial Placement - Buying
"I'm looking forward to experiencing another Christmas in retail from a Head Office and the huge amount of logistics going into this will be, whilst exhausting, hugely rewarding from an experience perspective."
Tom Bailey, Industrial Placement - Supply Chain
"The responsibility you get is incredible when you think about it. You help order millions of pounds worth of stock daily from various suppliers. I'm currently working closely with the top two bread suppliers in the UK!"
Andrew Lock, Industrial Placement - Supply Chain
"I've been given responsibility from day one, which I thrive off. I am really enjoying seeing the company from different perspectives when I work with different managers and am developing my skills to work toward Area Manager level."
Max Imfeld, Retail Graduate
We'll keep it simple. Your journey will begin with an online application. From here we'll shortlist based on the following criteria:
(In order to get the most out of the schemes, Graduates will ideally have a full UK driving licence. Normal eligibility rules also apply).
The next stage of the process is for you to complete a series of online psychometric tests. Should you pass these tests we will arrange a telephone interview with a member of our HR team and if we like what we hear, you will then be invited to attend a two day assessment centre in our Head Office, where we will be looking for your talent to rise above the rest.
The final stage of our application process is to meet with one of our directors and take part in some final testing that will assess your fit for the company and the role.
If this sounds like you, start your Iceland journey here!
